What a wedding!!

A beautiful wedding downtown then some quick photos on the way to the airport. Now, I’ve seen some pretty cool entrances to ceremonies, receptions etc but this one takes the cake. The wedding party flew to the Ankeny Airport in two different private planes then taxied up to the reception site complete with a red carpet entrance (ok, it was white but you get the idea). So fun! The reception was top notch and the party was hoping.

Congrats Emilee, Ryan and sweet Olivia on your new life together. Couldn’t be happier for the three of you. Thank you for letting me take part in such a wonderful day.

i am way, way behind on posting weddings on the blog. So forgive me for not telling too much of a story on these next 5 weddings. I hope the images speak for themselves and i hope each of my couples know how amazing it was to be a part of their day!

First off, we have Jade and Doug. Jade and Doug were married on a beautiful day at Glen Oaks with a stunning reception to follow capped off by dancing on the terrace. It was perfect and Jade is a joy. Doug definitely makes her heel ‘pop,’ as true love should!

holy cuteness alert. Megan and Jon were a dream to photograph. They are both amazing people, with wonderful (and extremely funny families) who love each other to pieces. Jon said it best, through all the things in his life, Megan has always been the thing that always made sense. Although this wedding took place on a hot, and i mean hot, august day they were up for taking a bit of time for outdoor photos before the beautiful reception. I could go on and on about how funny the speeches were, how her dads speech might have been one of the best i’ve ever heard, how they danced the night away outside on the terrace and Megan was kind and gracious to all her guests, but i won’t, i’ll just show you these…

congrats to the two of you! such a joy to take part in your wonderful, beautiful, perfect, wedding.

leah + jim ~ des moines wedding photographer

Jim and Leah’s day began in Ames and ended at Echo Valley on a perfect summers night. Simply put, the love that surrounds Jim and Leah is amazing. They both come from amazing families, and they both come from moms who have beaten cancer and who’s joy could be felt from across the room. During the dances I was a wreck watching it all unfold through my lens. Seeing the emotion on Leah’s moms face as she watched Leah danced with her dad, as well as seeing the emotion the wrapped around Jim and his Mom as they shared their dance was very powerful. This day was a testament to love as well as family. Thank you for letting me witness your day and I hope you enjoy the memories for a lifetime.

colleen + brandon ~ des moines wedding photographer

sweet, darling, smart and kind Colleen got married. I remember Colleen when she was in Junior High School! When i heard from her about shooting her wedding i was thrilled at the idea (and suddenly felt really old). She met her man, Brandon, at the CY Ride bus stop. After a little bit of “him figuring out that she was the one” the romance was on and the rest is history, as they say. They were married on a hot summer day but that didn’t stop all the fun. They were married at St Francis of Assisi and danced the night away at the DMGCC. They had some pretty hysterical moments, one the entrance where the groom ‘bowled’ the bride in and the bouquet toss was a memorable one as well. The photos below are quite entertaining.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your day, it was so fun to see you again and see the smile on your face when you looked at your sweet husband. Your happiness simply radiates.

these two belong on tv. I don’t mean some crappy reality show, they belong in those commercials about eharmony.com. These two lovebirds ‘met’ while she was on leave in Qatar and he was teaching in El Paso. Couples like this remind me how much I love my job. I just love photographing people that want to crawl inside the skin of the other. She is darling and is so sweet and kind its almost unreal. He is madly in love with her, funny and equally as kind. I couldn’t get enough time with these two, i would have kept them all night long for photos if they didn’t have a reception to attend!

oh the shoes. this story is amazing. andreas grandmother was gifted shoes by her traveling husband. She has shoes from all over the world. Literally. Andrea, the lucky girl, is the ONLY person who has the same tiny, tiny feet so she is given shoes for events, gifts etc. The ones she wore on her wedding day were from the late 50′s (we think). They were amazing!

Before this wedding, i had never seen a dance floor fill up so quickly. I am not kidding, the second the first dances finished it was as if people flew out of their chairs and hit the dance floor. I am surprised tables didn’t get knocked over in the process. it was awesome. may the rest of your days be filled with as much love and joy.

lisa and toby are getting married in a few weeks so i figured it was high time to get these photos up! We did an mini engagement shoot/family photos for these guys. Their little girl is ADORABLE. All smiles, giggles and pure elation. Toby and lisa are pretty fabulous too, but i really couldn’t get enough of their daughter. I wanted to just eat her up!

sometimes getting the photographs you want at your wedding is harder then you might think. Jessica and shawn are from Indiana and came back to Des Moines for their wedding. I met up with them of Friday, the day before the wedding, for some fun country photos that they were not going to be able to get the day of. I had a different wedding on saturday, but was thrilled to do this for them. I hope your wedding day went fabulously and thank you for letting me spend a little bit of time capturing you two together. It was such a joy.

Jessica is a zoo keeper. It was very important to get some images with her and her boots that she says she basically lives in!

Jasmine might be one of my favorite people, and not to mention, was the perfect bride. A lesson in being calm, collected, and how to enjoy the day should be taught by her. Nothing rattled Jazz’s cage this day, she was full of smiles and once the band started she never, and I mean never, left the dance floor. Max is a stellar guy himself, if you don’t already know his music you should definitely check him out the next time he is playing. Trust me, you’ll be doing your ears a favor. Max and Jazz were married at Max’s family home in a beautiful pool side setting then headed off to the reception at the sugar shack. We had to make one stop, at the Locust Tap. You see, these two met there many years ago so the Tap holds a special place in their lives. (Besides, it is the best dive bar in town). We had to be sure to get their name on the wall of fame, so in perfect Jazz and Max style they took over the frame, with some spray paint, and marked their territory.

The night ended with dancing under the tent and lots of fun photos at the photo booth. If you interested in having a photo booth at your wedding, inquire within. We have lots of fabulous options and they are lots of fun for guests.

I look forward to many years of friendship, and nights by the fire, with the two of you. Thank you for letting me share in this day and for having us as guests for the night. I had a ball photographing the day and just as much fun dancing the night away! much love. much joy. pure happiness.

What a fantastic, fun, wedding on an absolutely perfect day. Cassie and mike live in Chicago but decided to have the wedding back here in DSM. When I first heard from cassie, I thought to myself, I wonder if this is the same cassie I remember from a long, long, time ago. See, I graduated with cassies oldest sister so when shooting this wedding came around I was very excited as I just adore her sweet family. Cassie actually reminded me that when she was in junior high they toured valley and I was who cassie was partnered up with to teach her how to use the enlargers etc in the dark room. How funny is that!

Now, if I could bring mike to all of my weddings I would. Mike is on it. For the first time I got to sit back and let someone else tell everyone what to do. It was fabulous. On top of being the king of people organization, he is such a sweet guy and super funny. Mindy and I spent most of the day laughing.

I am so thankful to have been a part of this day. Cute doesn’t even come close to what these two are. I am fairly sure I was editing with a smile on my face the entire time. From a fun wedding party to photos at the new Americana, to the river, and finally to the reception where a beautiful love letter that was shared from Cassies grandfather to her grandmother years ago, and the awesome band, De Ja Vue, from Chicago, this truly was a perfect wedding. Congrats to the both of you on the beginning of a life full of laughter and love.
