lisa and toby are getting married in a few weeks so i figured it was high time to get these photos up! We did an mini engagement shoot/family photos for these guys. Their little girl is ADORABLE. All smiles, giggles and pure elation. Toby and lisa are pretty fabulous too, but i really couldn’t get enough of their daughter. I wanted to just eat her up!

a short while back i asked people to submit stories to me recommending families for photo shoots. Families that might not be thinking about having photos done, yet, families that would appreciate at this point in their lives. I thought i would get 5-10 submissions. I was wrong. I received lots of amazing stories making the choosing decision nearly impossible. I was and am speechless to the hearts of many of you, the kindness that exists in this community is overwhelming. I can only hope to raise a child that has such a thoughtful heart. To those of you that submitted, thank you. Most of all thank you for being such wonderful friends to others, they are lucky to have you in their lives fighting the fights right by their side.

Within the first 24 hours I received three stories all about the same family. Connie’s Family. The stories spoke of courage, bravery and most of all the power of love. Connie has been fighting cancer for 11 years now. A fight that has been never ending yet tackled head on, tackled by a fighter who was determined to be around when her first grand-daughter was born, a fighter who was in the delivery room when baby E. arrived, a fighter who took care of E. for her first year in place of a daycare, a fighter who has been an amazing mother, wife, grandmother (Nana), and friend. A fighter who hasn’t lost her laughter, her joy or her smile.

From one of the submissions:

“I have never met someone with a better outlook on life. Connie knows she is going to die, but I have never once seen her cry or be angry about it. When we are crying or feel down about the situation she is always there to tell us to “buck up because there are a lot worse things in life.” These pictures will be a reminder to Emersyn and Ashley that Connie loved and fought so hard for them. These pictures will help us explain to Emersyn how much her “Grammy” loved her and wanted so much to watch her grow into a beautiful young woman.”

Although the cancer is starting to show its face on the outside of Connies body, it will never, ever, take her spirit or her beauty. It will never take her love, it may, one day take her life, but never ever, her legacy.

Thank you connie. Thank you for teaching all of us what life is really about. Thank you for your strength and for letting me come into your home for these photos.

i would like to introduce the future line backer for Iowa in the year 2030. Hayden came into this world weighing in at 11 (yes, eleven) pounds, 3 oz and 23 inches long. Forget the newborn clothes and get this kid some big kid stuff! He is so awesome. He already has baby fat on his face. He doesn’t look like he is a mere 2 weeks old here, but I assure you, he is. Mom and Dad are so proud and already completely in love. Zach could give out ‘how to handle a baby lessons’ to other dads, the guy is a natural! When chatting about what he will be when he gets older, all zach had to say was, ‘he can be anything he wants to be. anything at all’. Way to go Dad. Mom is already out and about with the little guy, showing him off, taking road trips, you name it. I think little Hayden may have been the piece that was missing in their puzzle.

I am falling in love with all of my Real Living sessions. I love to capture what goes on at home. There is a natural element at play during these sessions. One that is very different then the sessions that take place at the park. Home is where everything that surrounds you is about you. I stopped by Gemma house a couple weeks ago to see what day to day was like for them. It also happened to be the very first time Gemma was in the grass. She didn’t quite know what to think about it. I think it tickled her little toes. Gemma also just celebrated her first birthday!! I feel like it was only yesterday that I met her for the very first time. we went to nanee and pop’s place for dinner on sunday and ryan was sporting her cowgirl boots and a cute little outfit. Jason spotted a random bail of hay and we decided to do a few photos of miss Ryan herself. She thinks she is the funniest person on the planet and loves to laugh at herself. So, in her first appearance on the blog, here she is in all her glory. She makes my heart happy.

I just posted about meghan and joe and their fantastic wedding, why not follow that with their wonderful family. I was invited in to their new house, even though they were still getting settled it was such a joy to get to do this session there. All i wanted from them was to just be themselves so we could document all the crazy, fun, love that happens at home. enjoy.

last night i left the studio after a full day there and walked right out without my camera bag and computer. Today Ryan and I had to go back down there to get it. While we were there I decided to ‘try‘ to take a few photos of her since she was in such a fantastic mood. Now, i love, love, love photographing little spirits, it is one of my favorite parts of my job. However, photographing my own little one, all alone, was about as successful as teaching a fish how to walk. She didn’t want to do anything but grab the camera, climb all over me and stick her finger in my belly button. If i would have had a camera on this, i am convinced i would be the next $10,000 winner on AFV. Here are a few i managed to snag of the little pistol herself in all her glory. Ohhh Turbo, i love you.

her hair is awesome. it basically looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket. makes me smile. where’s your belly, ryan??
at this point, she is fully sitting on me as i am on my back trying to get far enough away to be able to focus on her and she is ramming her finger into my belly button laughing uncontrollably. now i have managed to trap her between my legs, but, as usual she wiggles free to attack the camera.
