need space? i’ve got space!

we are coming up on the one year mark of having The Studio, in the east village. We feel so lucky to have found this gem. I’ve had a lot of inquiries asking if we rent it out. You bet! If you are looking for a space for a rehearsal dinner, an intimate reception, or ceremony, I’d love to show you what we offer. There is roughly 2000 sq feet of wide open space. You can organize and partition it off however fits your vision. There is a beautiful view of the des moines skyline at night, and your right in the heart of the wonderful east village. You can use whatever caterer/decorator you would like, nothing is exclusive at The Studio!

sweet baby stella

This is sweet baby stella. She is so sweet and beautiful. I was able to photograph her at her home at about 8 weeks old. She was born only a few weeks after ryan so mom and I were able to swap stories, and tips, and gripe about the crummy weather.  Sweet Stella was a tired little angel, she actually slept through the whole photo shoot. No matter what we did, she was determined to get some sleep. We were able to get some beautiful photos of her all wrapped up in her parents love, but not able to see her beautiful baby blues. I went back about a week later for round two and she was wide awake for me then.

Welcome to the world sweet Stella. You are loved.

Stella's cat was very curious the whole day, he would make guest appearances here and there.

jennifer and matt

holy crap it was cold!! Ok, so you could actually say that about most of this winter but this day was freezing! Regardless, Matt and Jennifer braved the chilly outdoors for me after a quick indoor session at my studio in the east village.  These two are getting married in June. Unfortunately I am not able to be in two places at once so I am not able to shoot the wedding. I promise you this, it will be a fun one! I am so happy they allowed me to do their engagement/save the date photos. Thanks for braving the frigid weather and I wish you all the joy and happiness two people can have.

(go tigers!)

mom and dad

These are my parents. I love my parents. I was able to do a quick, and very cold, photo shoot of them before this nasty winter set in. These photos are taken at their house on Lake Panorama. A place where so many memories are rooted, a place that I am so thankful to have been able to enjoy all of my life.  I wanted to be able to give them some photos of themselves for christmas this year. They have photos everywhere (i’m convinced my love for pictures was genetically passed down by my mom. That and my uncanny ability to loose my car keys in seconds). However, they don’t have many photos of them together. They still laugh and snuggle and kiss and hug. They are my inspiration. I can only hope that i still do all those things with Jason after 38 years. I believe that becoming a mom myself has made me a better daughter. I never used to cry at things, now I will cry at nearly anything. Now that i think about it, I am more like my mother then I ever thought. The woman cries at everything. Ok, so does my brother.

When you look at life, the greatest happinesses are family happinesses. ~~~joyce brothers

magda + billy

Magda and billy were married in jamaica. By a rasta man. I am admittedly very jealous of this fact. I really wanted to get married on a beach, but hey, lets get back to them. After jamaica they did another short ceremony here for family who couldn’t attend the jamaican nuptials. Before the short evening ceremony we were able to bounce around town for a short photo session of just the two of them. We had to make it to the sculpture garden downtown because the scary, skinny, thinking bunny statue has been following magda around for many years. They had to have at least one photo with it! Billy wanted to have a paper bag with 40 oz to freedom in it for the bunny photo, unfortunately, nobody in the park had either one we could borrow. Maybe next time we get together we will be better prepared.  :)

many congrats to the two of you.

sarah + brad

jessica + brad

I have a lot of weddings to post from the end of 2009. The first one up is Jessica and brad. I actually went to high school with jessica so when she emailed me to do her wedding i was thrilled! Although the day started off with torrential rain it ended up being absolutely beautiful outside for the rest of the day. After the ceremony, and a quick session at the park, we headed downtown to the High Life bar and lounge. Some couples cut the cake, some couples split a cupcake, not these two, these two had pickled eggs. They love them. I tried very hard not to throw up. Keep in mind I was oh so pregnant for all of these weddings.  That said, i’m glad they liked them.

It’s a girl!!!

I just wanted to do a quick post about our new addition!!

On November 19th we were blessed with a new baby girl. Her name is Ryan Paige Connolly. She came in weighing 8lbs 3 oz and was 20 inches long. We just love her to pieces and feel so lucky to have such a beautiful, healthy, little girl to call our own. Thanks to all of you for putting up with me (and my pregnant brain) these last few months. I look forward to sharing many photos of our life and taking photos of  and meeting more of you in the coming year.

joyce + nick

joyce and nick, where do i begin! first off, this wedding was on the hottest day of the year. no question. it was pushing 109 with the heat index. hard to remember those days considering it is all of 46 right now. oh iowa.  the fact that the trolly they rented didn’t have any air conditioning (how convenient) didn’t make things much better. that said, Joyce made 109 degrees look fun, beautiful and downright amazing. despite the heat we still had a lot of fun, a stop at the hessen haus was a great decision, after all what else can cool down a wedding party like a few cold boots of beer!?

joyce and nick also have amazing families. Everyone from the parents to the wedding party to the guests were so kind and friendly. I had such a joyous time at their wedding. joyce and her father were wonderful to witness, i can only hope that in the future my children look at their dad the way the joyce looks at hers.

I couldn’t decide on what images to post….
